The purpose of the polity studies focus of Current Issues in Language Planning is to draw together in a systematic manner the sociolinguistic information in a language policy and planning context that is available for a variety of polities around the world. Over time, this will allow those interested in language to develop a thorough going and comparative perspective on language policy and planning in a world-wide context.

A number of polity studies, that provide examples of the genre the journal is seeking to develop, have already been published (see Related Monographs and the Table of Contents). Authors should also read the Polity Guidelines that list the 23 questions or areas they should consider covering in a polity monograph. Polity studies monographs are individually authored work (one or several authors). Edited collections of work will not be considered for publication as a polity study.
